Information Management Inc. is pleased to have Carl as a member of our
team. Carl has 30+ years of experience in various aspects of computer systems
support and applications development. In general, these can be summarized
into three main areas:

Application Development. On UNIX -- C, PERL, UNIX shell and PROLOG. On MVS -- COBOL and COBOL II with both MS and DB2, as well as BAL, PL/1, TSO CLIST and REXX. |
Carl's background includes: Contracting to IBM for work on several projects at Lucent client site. Upgraded (database aspects) a UNIX/ORACLE order processing application. Part of a team to migrate from an MVS/ESA machine to an MVS OS/390 machine. Supported system test database environment which included IMS and DB2 databases. Application DBA for production environment, which included IMS, DB2 and ORACLE databases. Support DBA for ASAP application, which uses anORACLE 8 database. He had also worked for USWest for database support of production HR databases. Handled backups, reorgs, physical design, loading, networking and developer interface for two large (40 gig each) databases. Environment was Oracle 7.3.4 on Sequent UNIX platforms. Independent consultant to Andersen Consulting, client was Cyprus/Amax minerals. Managed database issues for two large projects one was a conversion/upgrade of a large 40 gig MIMS database, including the introduction of symmetric replication, the other was installation and implementation into production of ORACLE Financials.
Examples of Carl's professional experience in ORACLE Database Administration:
| Installed and implemented ORACLE Financials. Modules worked with are GL, AP, INV, OE and AR (HP-UX 10.01 environment). |
| Managed planning and implementation of performance strategies. |
| Wrote several PL/SQL procedures to schedule journal imports, mass allocations and FSGs and monitor for their completion. |
| Installed and implemented release 10.6.1 with Smart Client Prod 15 in production. |
| Upgraded a test database to release 10.7. Applied patches to keep the system up-to-date. |
| Administered and converted to production a symmetric replication environment where the 40 gig master database was replicated on another machine. Used raw files as well as standard filesystem files (HP-UX 10.01 environment). |
| Participated in disk selection for two large production databases. |
| Managed physical and logical database design of numerous applications. |
| Wrote documentation for end users and for operations personnel. |
| Installed ORACLE7 and created database instances on SunOS 4.1.3
boxes and AT&T GIS 3475 boxes running System VR4. |
Carl also preformed ORACLE/DB2 interface. This was accomplished with "Transparent Gateway for DB2" (since upgraded and renamed), an ORACLE product that runs on the MVS mainframe which runs the target DB2 subsystems. Earlier software levels of this product had a different name --- "SQL*Connect to DB2". He installed, configured, monitored, tuned, debugged and otherwise supported this software, and also provided consultation support to the application developers who used it.
Carl's holds a Bachelor of Arts: in Mathematics and a Master of Science: in Computer Science at the Colorado University.
Dec 1992 and Jan 1993 Carl published "Opening IMS to UNIX", 2-part article in "Database Programming and Design"
